It’s not over yet

While San Miguel Corp’s long-awaited partnership with Australian Telco Telstra is now well and truly dead, there’s another foreign player that might be interested in partnering up with the conglomerate to introduce a third telco in the PH.

Norway-based multinational telecommunications provider Telenor Group is apparently interested in teaming up with SMC for that third telco according to SMC president Ramon Ang.

“They called me,” he said, according to a report on the Inquirer. The Telenor Group has expressed interest in a partnership before talks with Telstra got underway.

Telenor has experience in Asian markets and has a presence in Malaysia, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh. 51% of its revenues in the first quarter of this year was made in Asia, which explains its willingness to partner with SMC for a third telco in the PH.

A third player entering the market in PH would help foster competition, lower prices and improve the overall service in the country.
