Facebook to Crackdown on Click-Bait Headlines

Finally, Facebook does something good (for once)

Upworthy, click-bait type articles have become a trend nowadays, which isn’t necessarily a good thing. For one, a click-bait headline is an extremely lazy way of making titles (You won’t believe what they do next!), as it doesn’t really tell people what your article is about. Most people hate them too, as it turns out – according to a survey done by Facebook, most users preferred regular ol’ headlines that tell them what a story is about before clicking on them 80% of the time, which is why the social media giant will now be cracking down on click-bait stories shared on people’s news feed.

Facebook will now start checking if you immediately went back to your news feed after clicking on a news article, rather than actually reading it. This means that click-bait articles will be ranked lower, and will eventually get buried in your news feed (where they rightly belong). Articles and stories that have more engagement (shares, likes and comments) will now be highlighted in your news feed, which should also reduce the number of click-bait links that you see.
