Government Goes Fiber Via GovNet

130 government offices (118 in Metro Manila and 12 in Cebu) are now connected via fiber optics as the Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) just launched GovNet as part of their iGovPhil initiative. The network will be expanded within the year to include offices in other regions, such as: Pampanga, Leyte, Cagayan, and Baguio City – to name a few. You can learn more about GovNet in the video below:

Pretty soon, GovNet will connect 317 government offices across 160 agencies that will also provide free Wi-Fi access. Hopefully, their faster internet speeds and inter-connectivity will allow these offices and agencies to serve us better and cut queue times down. Does this all tie in with the recent statement from PCCI President, George T. Barcelon, that our internet speeds should improve to 15-20mbps within a year?
