Now We Know Why ASUS released several Variants of the ZenFone 4

“We don’t believe that one fits all, and that people have different needs.” – ASUS Head of Global Content Marketing Marcel Campos

With this year’s ZenFone launch, ASUS launched six ZenFone 4 models: Namely the ZenFone 4 Max, ZenFone 4 Max Pro,  ZenFone 4 Selfie, ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro, ZenFone 4, and ZenFone 4 Pro. People are scratching their heads and wanting to ask: Why did ASUS choose to launch different variants of its ZenFone 4 family, instead of sticking to one to two models, like most brands?

During the media interview with ASUS officials hours before the Philippines launch of the ZenFone 4, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen explained the decision as part of a marketing move to accommodate their customer’s different needs with their smartphones.

With that in mind, they have identified three markets: those who give importance to battery life (ZenFone Max and ZenFone Max Pro), those who give importance to selfies and “wefies” (ZenFone 4 Selfie and ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro), and those who give importance to professional photography (the ZenFone 4 and Zenfone 4 Pro).

Also worth noting is their decision to use “Pro” instead of “Deluxe” in branding their top tier ZenFones. Shen explained that by using the Pro branding, they easily deliver their message that the Pro models are those who want “to go above and beyond” with their smartphone needs. “The goal is to find the right balance,” Campos said.
