Twitter gets flooded with cheers for Gilas Pilipinas!

Croatia, a favored team in the on-going FIBA World Basketball Championship, was almost beaten by Gilas Pilipinas in an emotionally charged showdown in Sevilla, Spain. The arena transformed into a home court of sorts for Gilas as thousands of Filipinos attended the game to cheer on the most unlikely team to do well in basketball. The cheers though weren’t just being shouted from inside the arena in Sevilla. The Twitterverse exploded with tweets of Filipinos all over the world cheering Gilas with a variety of hashtags. We did a quick scan and as it turns out there were over 150,000 tweets that hit the internet on August 30 with the keywords Gilas, #GilasPilipinas, and #Puso. Check out the chart below!

Wooohooo.
Wooohooo.

The tweets also didn’t just come from the Philippines. It looks like our kababayans all over the world also lent their voices to the virtual cheer barrage!

Whoa.
Whoa.
