Geeks on a Beach: Pushing for the Development of the Philippine Startup Ecosystem

The shift to digital innovation, startup ecosystem and digital transformation

Back in the day, the focus was merely on call centers. Philippine cities were among the top choices for outsourcing because many Filipinos speak English very well. This year, however, our rankings dropped a notch. Manila, for instance, fell from #2 to #4; Cebu, from #10 to #12. The main reason for this drop is because for the first time ever, digital innovation, startup ecosystem and digital transformation were used as primary measures in determining the top cities for outsourcing. There is obviously still room for a lot of improvement in this department.

How do we improve our rankings?

There are programs in place to spur digital transformation and propel the startup ecosystem. TechTalks.ph along with the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DICT), seedPH, DigitalPH and Digital Cities are working together for a 2-day conference that is all about pushing for the development of the Philippine startup ecosystem.

Geeks on a Beach (GOAB)

Now on its 5th year, Geeks on a Beach is stronger than ever. Ms. Tina Amper, the founder of TechTalks.ph and organizer of GOAB says, “Since day one, TechTalks.ph was about promoting tech and startups in the Philippines. We were always about supporting the community here in the Philippines, which included expats along with the locals.”

GOAB is the event where founders, investors, innovators and geeks of all shapes and sizes can come together to share ideas, learn from each other and get mentored by experts from all over the globe.

Why the beach?

The Philippines has some of the best beaches in the world. Why hold a conference in a building when you can do so in a beach? 😉

Geeks on a Beach will happen on August 24 to 25, 2017 at Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan. To register, visit http://www.geeksonabeach.com/.
