PH Internet Users “Sorely Lacking” in Data Privacy Awareness

Said the government’s National Privacy Commission

National Privacy Commission (NPC) deputy commissioner Ivy Patdu, in an interview with GMA News TV, raised warning flags over the Filipino Internet user’s lack of awareness when it comes to data privacy.

Patdu warned Pinoy netizens, especially social media enthusiasts, to think twice before sharing personal and sensitive information online, as identity theft and related crimes are on the rise nowadays. According to the commissioner, “people should treat personal data with the same care that they treat money and personal finances.”

I-value natin ang personal information natin,” she added.
