Fast LTE broadband direct to your home

Today PLDT officially launched Home Bro ULTERA, the company’s first ever LTE powered home broadband plan. ULTERA uses an LTE variant called TD-LTE, or Time Division Duplex-Long Term Evolution which cuts the wires of traditional hi-speed broadband, speeding up deployment and setup compared to traditional DSL with its physical cables. The new service will come in three packages – Ultera Basic, Utera Max and Ultera Pro, delivering speeds of up to 3 Mbps, 5 Mbps and 10 Mbps respectively.

The new service will also come with numerous add-on services which include Clickplay, MyPinoyTV, Spinnr, EA Games and News5 Everywhere. PLDT says that their service is fast enough to support their streaming video box TVolution,

As far as pricing goes, ULTERA starts at Php 999, which is roughly the same price of PLDT’s MyDSL cheapest plan. Going up the ladder though, you pay less if you go with ULTERA – the Max plan gets you 5 mbps speeds for only Php 1599 a month, compared to MyDSL’s Php 1995, while the Pro gives you the most bang for your buck – 10 Mbps for just Php 1999, while MyDSL’s comparable 10 Mbps plan goes for twice that, at Php 4,000.

Of course, there is a catch. While PLDT doesn’t say that there’s a data cap per se, There is a cap for each tier. If you go over the monthly cap of 10GB for Basic, 15GB for Max and 30GB for Pro, your speed gets knocked down 30% of the original speed.  There’s also other fees for people applying for the service – an initial cash out of Php 999, Php 1599 and Php 1999 for Basic, Max and Pro respectively, as well as an activation fee of Php 2,000, Php 1500 and Php 1000 for Basic, Max and Pro respectively.
