Globe starts clamping down on heavy data users

If you’ve discovered that your mobile browsing speeds have been slower than usual and you happen to be a Globe user, take heed. We’ve gotten reports that Globe has begun strictly enforcing their data caps in accordance to their Fair Use Policy which states that users are allocated 1GB of data a day or 3GB of data a month (whichever comes first). Users who exceed that number (and we discovered quite a few of them based on their Facebook rants) will automatically be downgraded to 2G browsing speeds if they exceed their limits, though they will be upgraded again to regular speeds once midnight comes around.

To be fair, both Globe and Smart have data caps in place for their their data plans, though Smart has been more lenient of their 1.5GB data cap. We (the author) have Smart’s 1500 LTE data plan, and while we regularly go over the limit, we haven’t had the unpleasant experience of being downgraded to 2G speeds yet.

Only surfing promos and data plans for Globe’s postpaid service and Tattoo Lifestyle sticks are affected by this Fair Use Policy. Regular surfing rates and PowerSurf users should be unaffected.

We’ve reached out to Globe for their comment on the issue, but haven’t heard back. We’ll update this post once they send word.
