As you know, Xiaomi is coming to the Philippines, and they are coming in a big way. If you’re not familiar with the brand and what it promises to bring to the Philippines, we’ve listed the top things you can expect from the Chinese brand.

1. Top-notch hardware

While Xiaomi is a Chinese company, don’t think that they’re your typical Android smartphone manufacturer that creates cheap, copy-cat products. Xiaomi prides itself in being a fully integrated company that does both software and hardware that is on the bleeding edge. The company’s latest flagship, the Mi 3, has the highest AnTuTu score right now, standing at 36000+ points. Even though it’s using a relatively older chip compared to today’s flagship devices made by international brands, its synthetic benchmarks are only getting higher because the company continously does software updates to MIUI. Speaking of updates…

2. Constant updates for MIUI

Hugo Barra, the VP for Xiaomi Global, said that the MIUI constantly gets updates every Friday of the week. Those updates keep the OS fresh, and makes it quick and snappy. Hugo tells us that’s one of the reasons why the Mi 3 is able to attain the high marks in AnTuTu that it enjoys currently.

3. Fantastically aggressive pricing

While Xiaomi did not go into detail about pricing for their products, they take pride in how disruptive their pricing for their devices are. In fact, Hugo said that they try to price their products close to their production cost, something that we expect to continue here in the Philippines. A cursory look at Lazada’s pricing will give you an idea of just how much the Mi 3 will retail in the Philippines. By the way, that pricing isn’t direct – Xiaomi tells us that the Mi 3s that Lazada sold previously was acquired through another seller, which means that there’s already an added cost to it when they sold it, meaning that there’s a big possibility that the Mi 3 may sell for even lower once Xiaomi sells it officially through their partners.

4. Primarily e-commerce focus

One of the reasons why Xiaomi is able to offer very aggressive pricing for their products is that they don’t go through the typical route that most other brands go to when they sell products, meaning they don’t go through big box stores and re-sellers when they sell their wares. While the company did not tell us exactly who they will be partnering with when they sell their products here, it’s almost guaranteed that they will only sell their products through an online shopping gateway.

5. Focus on customer care

Even though Xiaomi is just entering the market today, they have already set up 7 service centers all around the Philippines to handle product repair. Aside from the service centers, Xiaomi is also setting up 53 drop off points for people who don’t have access to the 7 service centers that the company has setup in the Philippines nationwide. The company also promised fast turnaround times for these service centers and drop-off points: next day turnaround for the service centers, and 7 days for the drop-off points. They’ve also setup a customer care center that you can call if you have any questions about your device or if you just want to know more about a particular Xiaomi device before buying one.
