Amazing growth for ASUS

We’ve known for a long time that ASUS had a winner with the Zenfone 5. The phone was almost always sold out in stores when it first came out and it’s still doing quite well even up till now with the imminent release of the Zenfone 2. What we didn’t know was the extent of ASUS’ rise to stardom because of the Zenfone – the IDC report that named Cherry Mobile the #1 smartphone brand in the PH also said that “ASUS also gained considerable share last year” despite being a relative newbie in the smartphone market.

How considerable? We talked to Lenny Lin, smartphone product manager for ASUS and he revealed that ASUS managed to jump from #12 in Q3 of last year to #6 in Q4. That’s a massive 6 place jump in just one quarter because of the phenomenal performance of the Zenfone 5. We’ve also confirmed from at least two sources that ASUS managed to sell around 300K units of Zenfone 5s last year, which is a massive number of smartphones for a single brand.
