Best Phones For Q4 2017: Flagships

Here’s the flagships that you might want to take a look at!

We’re already fast approaching the holiday season, and many of you are already looking for a flagship phone to be your next daily driver. While there’s plenty of phones to consider with great price tags, that’s not the point of this post. This round-up gives you the best of the best phones that you can possibly get your hands on, that we’ve either tested or spent some time with in the past. If money is no object, these five phones should be in your radar if you’re looking to purchase a brand new flagship:

Huawei Mate 10 Pro

Huawei’s on its way up, and it’s made no secret about its ambitions to usurp the throne from traditional leader Samsung. The fact that the brand is already calling its Mate 10 series of phones the king of Android is a dead giveaway to the its ambitions. And the Mate 10 Pro may very well deserve that title – it’s one of the nicest looking Android phones we’ve ever tested, it has a great camera, it’s insanely fast and it’s armed with AI smarts that the company says will help you keep the phone fast AND take better photos.

There’s not a lot of Android phones that could give the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 a run for its money, but the Mate 10 Pro sure can.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

It’s no surprise that the most expensive Android smartphone so far this year is in this list. And while many people are adamant at not spending 50K on a single smartphone, there’s plenty of reasons to whip out that credit card, close your eyes and swipe for the Note 8. It’s one of the fastest phones currently available to buy in the market for one. It’s screen is just to die for. It has one of the best cameras around. The stylus is a boon for creatives. We could go on, but you get the point.

If you’re a Samsung faithful with a lot of cash to spend, then the Galaxy Note 8 is the phone for you.

LG V30

LG’s V30 came out at a time when people were looking for an alternative to the Galaxy Note 8. Sure the Note 8 was amazing, but not everyone is ready to drop that much cash on a single Android phone. LG’s V30 was a breath of fresh air because people expected it to be priced lower than the Galaxy Note 8, which it had great parity in terms of specs. While it’s not yet available in the Philippines, that will change as the holiday season draws near, as both official and parallel importers are looking to stock the hot new flagship from the other Korean company.

HTC U11

HTC’s U11 makes this list because a) it’s one of the most visually striking phones we’ve ever seen b) it used to have the best camera in an Android phone c) it costs way lower than all the other options in this list. Sure, it doesn’t have an 18:9 display (you’ll have to wait for the U11+ for that) but it has plenty of storage, RAM and a camera that can hold its own against its competitors.

It’s also the most affordable of the flagships in this list, priced at just Php 36,990.

Apple iPhone 8 Plus

No flagship list would be complete without the latest and greatest from Apple. And until the iPhone X officially gets here (who knows when that’ll happen) the iPhone 8 Plus is your only option right now for the best flagship from the firm from Cupertino. If you ignore the iterative design choice compared to last year’s model, the iPhone 8 Plus is really a great phone. It has a better processor, better camera, better battery consumption as well as better overall features – and it also helps that it won’t bankrupt you when you decide to get one.

Special Mention: iPhone X

This list wouldn’t be complete without the iPhone X, and while we haven’t really had the good fortune to get our hands on a physical unit, reviews for Apple’s true flagship has been unanimous – it’s one of the best iPhones to ever come out, period. It’s so good, that demand has been through the roof, and just like any Apple phone, you’ll have to pay through the nose to buy one if you want one early. Prices for the iPhone X in the Philippines via online stores and grey market sellers are, well, ridiculous, with some places asking for double the $999 SRP. But if money is no object and you have an insatiable thirst for Apple’s latest flagship, then by all means, beg, steal and borrow to buy one.
