Unboxing and Commentary Video

We made a quick video to share with you guys our unboxing experience. Watch the short 5-minute clip below! Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel!

Packaging and Initial Impressions

It's the Cherry Mobile Flare HD unboxed!

The Cherry Mobile Flare HD came in the usual Cherry Mobile box with the product hero shot up front and the technical specifications at the back. We fill though that the box does not do justice to the phone. There’s no explicit mention of the 4.3-inch HD IPS display at the front of the box. They also could have mentioned that it sported an “improved” battery with 1,800mAh. Hopefully though this isn’t the final packaging yet and they will still make improvements in time for the commercial unit.

As expected, unboxing was very straightforward. We pulled out the inner compartment and we were greeted by the Cherry Mobile Flare HD wrapped in plastic and covered with a screen protector with printed information. We removed the plastic and “scratched” off the protector (it was really hard to remove).

The unit itself is simply gorgeous. It’s made mostly from plastic with a smooth finish. It’s remarkably thin, lightweight, pocketable, and easy-to-use with one hand. Your thumb will have no problem traveling the entire screen, which by the way, is slightly bigger at 4.3-inches compared to the 4.0-inch displays of a lot of entry level models.

Probably the most appealing change they made though was with the software. Cherry Mobile pre-installed their newest lock screen which just looks so awesome. This one is lightyears better than the generic lock screen found in their other phones. We get a stylish white and red background with a more kick-ass rendition of the ever-so-familiar Cherry Mobile logo.

When you press down on the lock button on the lock screen, icons for messages, contacts, camera, and settings pop out for easier access. You can just slide your finger towards what you want to quickly open without having to go through the home screen.

The 4.3-inch HD IPS display is definitely the main sell for the Cherry Mobile Flare HD. We were amazed with the quality of the display once we started going through a couple of apps. Icons, images, text, and videos popped out more. There were barely any pixels left distinguishable to the naked eye. It’s a far superior experience compared to the other Flare models and entry-level offers of other brands.

For performance, the 1GB RAM combined with the quad-core processor does the job of delivering a mostly smooth and fluid Android experience. Of course we need more time to verify this so expect a more detailed take on this once we have the full review out next week.

By the way, before we forget, the Cherry Mobile Flare HD comes with a free Jelly Case. We were surprised to see that they gave away a pink case though. This should be more gender neutral, hehe.

Full Review Coming Soon!

Our full review for the Cherry Mobile Flare HD should be out by next week. We have a pretty long backlog already of devices up for review but we’ll do our best to go through them without sacrificing the quality of the reviews.
