Initial Impressions: A new take to budget phones

While the Flare S6 has the appearance of a typical budget phone, Cherry Mobile gave it a fresh twist, adding metallic trimming to the fingerprint sensor and the protruding camera module at the back. The removable rear cover has a matte finish, making it friendly against smudges.

Underneath the removable battery cover, you have your slots for two MicroSIMs, a microSD slot, and your 2600mAh battery.

You have your power and volume controls on the right side of the phone.

At the bottom, you have your microphone, speaker, and a USB type C port. Right now, the Flare S6 is one of the most affordable phones that uses a USB type C port instead of the usual MicroUSB.

For those who need to use their headphones, the Flare S6 retains the essential headphone jack, found on top of the phone.

As for the phone’s front, it may look like a typical budget phone, but the Flare S6 has a vibrant 5.2-inch HD display, along with the 13-megapixel selfie camera found above the display. Like the Flare S6 Selfie and Flare S6 Plus, the Flare S6 has the Cherry OS skin to go along with Android Nougat. We will go in-depth on Cherry Mobile’s new OS skin in a separate article, but our first impression is relatively positive. Cherry’s new Android overlay boasts of novel features like 360 Security.

Powering the Flare S6 is a MediaTek 6737 processor, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. While the internals are not going to blow people away, it still a decent setup considering the price of the Flare S6.

Priced at Php 3,999, the Flare S6 is a promising offering from Cherry Mobile.
