Packaging and contents:

The Selfie is packed in Cherry Mobile’s typical packaging – a box that contains everything, plus a carton sleeve that goes over it that has all the specs of the device within.

When you open the box up, you’ll see the phone, charger, USB cable and headphones, which is typical of Cherry Mobile’s offerings.

Initial impressions: definitely a phone for selfie addicts

The Selfie definitely is quite different from most smartphones in the market. For one, the phone isn’t completely rectangular – it’s a bit more hexagonal in shape, with a pronounced top and chin. The bottom chin has a plastic strip in the bottom, while the top is dominated by the large, 13-megapixel front camera. The phone’s design is definitely more feminine than most, which is probably what Cherry Mobile was going for when they decided to offer it.

The phone has a silver plastic strip running along the sides of the device which gives it a bit of variety design-wise. The volume rocker is on the left side while the power button is on top. The Selfie also has a hardware shutter key on the right side of the device, probably to facilitate easier selfies when you’re using it. If you haven’t guessed, the back of the Selfie is sealed, and you’ll have to pop out the SIM tray using a pin or something similar to place your SIM cards in.

Turning the device over, you’ll see the rather large housing for the 13-megapixel rear camera, flanked by two LED flash units on either side. We’re a bit baffled by this design choice as the camera looks to be the same size as typical cameras, so we’re not exactly sure why the Selfie felt the need to have that rather obnoxiously large camera housing placed on the back.

As far as hardware goes, the selfie is along the same lines as other 1.7GHz octa-core smartphones out there. A cursory trip to both AnTuTu and Geek Bench confirm the Selfie’s hardware chops, though only a full review will reveal just how powerful the hardware combination in the device is.
