Cherry Mobile demoes just how tough the display of the Omega Spectrum really is

While Cherry Mobile is sort of late to the 5K and below HD IPS quad-core smartphone party, it’s really trying to show everyone how superior their latest budget quad-core smartphone is compared to the competition. This time around, Cherry Mobile has released a video showing an employee trying to brutalize the Omega Spectrum’s 5-inch, HD display which is protected by scratch resistant Asahi Dragontrail glass.

Cherry Mobile Omega Spectrum specs

  • 1.2GHz quad-core Broadcom BCM 23550 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 5-inch HD IPS display, Dragontrail glass, 1280 x 720 resolution
  • 4GB storage (possibly expandable via microSD)
  • 8-megapixel camera with flash
  • 2-megapixel front camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS, Miracast ready, USB OTG capable
  • Dual-SIM
  • Android 4.2
  • Php 4,999

Interestingly enough, the Omega Spectrum’s setup has a leg up over MyPhone’s Rio, which only has a plastic (likely acrylic) protection over the display, which makes it tougher to damage during everyday use. Of course, that doesn’t mean the Omega Spectrum’s glass is indestructible, it just means that it’s able to stand up to more punishment than other similarly sized displays without Dragontrail glass.

This begs the question: would you buy the Omega Spectrum over the Rio? Let us know in the comments.
