First Shots: HTC U Ultra

Check out the shots of the U Ultra’s 12-megapixel rear camera

Yesterday we gave you our unboxing of HTC’s phablet, the U Ultra. Today, we’re going to be showing you a preview of its shooting capabilities. But first, a little primer on the U Ultra’s main camera: it’s a 12-megapixel rear snapper utilizing UltraPixel tech. It’s the same tech that many other flagship smartphones utilize today, with the thinking that bigger individual pixel sizes in the sensor (in the U Ultra’s case its 1.55µm pixels) mean better light collection, which in turn means better low-light performance.

Interestingly it was HTC that first pushed for UltraPixel tech back in 2013, to great derision. Who knew that their decision would be widely accepted and used by their competitors today?
