A tougher, better glass is now here
Corning, the world’s go-to manufacturer when it comes to protecting the fragile displays of their gadgets, have announced the newest iteration of their Gorilla Glass, aptly named Gorilla Glass 4. The company says that the latest version of their glass protection is now able to withstand being dropped onto asphalt without shattering – most of the time.
Corning’s pegged the likelihood of the new glass of not shattering (and making you cry in the process) at around 80% when dropped onto asphalt from a height of around 1 meter. It’s not perfect obviously, and there’s still a chance that you’ll be facing costly glass replacement because of your butter fingers, but at least there’s a big chance that your phone/tablet may walk away unscathed.
