IFA 2017: Samsung launches new Gear Wearables

Improving life, one Gear at a time

Samsung may have launched the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 8 days before IFA 2017, but that does not stop the Korean company in making a blast for this year’s IFA. This time around, Samsung launched new Gear wearables, all aimed towards bringing the best in health, fitness, and smart tech.

Gear Fit 2 Pro

This waterproof fitness band (rated for 5 ATM) has a built-in GPS tracker and heart rate monitor to track your fitness activities from running to swimming, all displayed through a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display. In addition to its features, the Gear Fit 2 Pro uses a traditional buckle strap for better durability. Being geared towards swimmers, the Gear Fit 2 Pro has a built-in Speedo On swim tracking app.

The Gear Fit 2 Pro will come with two strap options and will retail for $199 (~Php10.1k).

Gear Sport

Aside from its 5 ATM water resistance rating, the Gear Sport is also shock proof with a MIL-STD-810G rating. Its circular display uses a 360×360 Super AMOLED display. Like the Gear Fit 2 Pro, the Gear Sport has a built-in GPS tracker, a heart rate monitor, and Speedo On swim tracking app to track your fitness progress. It is geared towards fitness buffs, as it has an automatic activity detection which determines if you are running, cycling, or doing a dynamic activity, in addition to having access to Under Armour’s fitness apps: UA Record, MyFitnessPal, MapMyRun and Endomondo.

The Gear Sport is perfect for music lovers, as it has support for music streaming via Spotify.

The Gear Sport will come in Blue and Black, with a variety of straps to choose from. Price is not yet available as of press time.

Gear IconX (2018)

An upgrade to this year’s IconX, the 2018 model has a better battery life, rated at up to five hours if you stream through your phone and up to seven hours of standalone music playing. In addition, the 2018 IconX has been upgraded to have support for Bixby.

The Gear IconX (2018) will be available in Black, Gray, and Pink. Price is not yet available as of press time.
