IFA 2017: Sony Unveils the Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ1 Compact

Sony’s New Members to their Flagship Family

At Barcelona earlier this year, Sony took home the prize for Best Smartphone at Mobile World Congress when they introduced the world to the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. It’s equipped with powerful hardware, a gorgeous 4K display, and the ability for its cameras to shoot videos at an astounding 960 frames per second but as you could imagine had a pretty hefty price tag attached to it. Today, Sony introduces two new members to its flagship line, the Xperia XZ1 and the XZ1 Compact, that are just as capable but have been dialed down a notch to possibly give consumers better options in terms of pricing.

As you can see, both phones are packing a lot of heat but in smaller chassis. It’s also been awhile since we’ve handled a device below 5-inches, so we’re pretty curious about how the XZ1 Compact will handle. Sony is also sticking to their guns with their OmniBalance design, but at least that means that the devices still have IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

The Sony Xperia XZ1 will be globally available by next month, while the Xperia XZ1 Compact lags behind and will be made available by October.
