Which One Should You Get?

The question we get asked the most these days is what do we think people should pick between the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Not really that surprising since both devices are now officially available locally through Apple premium resellers such as Beyond the Box and through telcos like Smart. We’ve already written extensive reviews about both devices but to keep things simple and short, check out our super summarized and bite-sized thoughts below on why you should get one over the other.

Why you should get the iPhone 6 Plus

What we love about it:

  • The bigger display will let you enjoy videos, browsing, and reading much more compared to the iPhone 6. Believe us when we say that you will barely touch or use your iPad anymore once you get an iPhone 6 Plus.
  • Monstrous battery life. Based on our tests it outperformed the iPhone 6 by as much as 30%-40% despite having the bigger screen and higher resolution.
  • Not sure if this is a good or bad thing but people will notice the iPhone 6 Plus much more than the iPhone 6. Definitely a thief magnet but it does make a bolder statement due to it’s size and build.

What we hate about it:

  • The sheer size and the back makes it quite slippery. Best to get a case for it.
  • It is quite unwieldy at first. You will need to spend time with it to get used to the size, especially if you’re coming from an iPhone 5S or iPhone 4.
  • You will need both hands to use it properly.
  • The “threat” of bending. However in our tests it never really did bend in normal everyday uses.
  • Don’t bother putting it in your pocket because it looks really weird unless you have super baggy pants. Best to have a bag with you if you’re going to use this.

Why You Should Get the iPhone 6

4.7-inch form factor is perfect. Not too big, not too small.
4.7-inch form factor is perfect. Not too big, not too small.

What we love about it:

  • The size is perfect for one-handed use. It’s bigger than the 5S and gives you a much better experience without sacrificing the form factor by crossing over to the “phablet” realm like the iPhone 6 Plus.
  • Battery life is better than the iPhone 5S by around 20%-30% but not as good as the iPhone 6 Plus.
It can still fit in our pockets.

What we hate about it:

  • The iPhone 6S? Hehe. Seriously though the iPhone 6 is very good but we can’t 100% recommend that everyone upgrade from their 5S to it. If you’re in contract with Smart or Globe just wait it out and get the 6 on retention or wait for the iPhone 6S.

So which one should we get?

If you want a radically different experience from your iPhone 5/5S/4/4S, go for the iPhone 6 Plus. It is technically better but the price you pay for it is that it can be quite unwieldy. It will last a whole lot longer than other iPhones and the display is amazing but be warned that you will need both hands for it and that you’ll have a hard time just keeping it in your pocket. Also, if you just want one i-device to carry with you, go for the iPhone 6 Plus and ditch your iPad.

The iPhone 6 is a much safer choice. While it’s battery isn’t as good as the iPhone 6 Plus, it’s still considerably better than the iPhone 5S. You can also still use it with one hand and it can still comfortably slide in your pocket.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are both available already locally via telcos like Smart, official Apple resellers like Beyond the Box, and online stores like Kimstore.
