Philips’ new Android smartphone has an absolutely gigantic battery

While we’ve managed to push the edge of performance for most smartphones, battery performance still hasn’t managed to catch up. If you’re the sort of person that routinely forgets to charge their phone (or are just pretty lazy, like us) you’ll be happy to know that Philips (yes, Philips), the manufacturer known for making household appliances has come out with the W6618 Android smartphone. While the W6618 doesn’t have the best processor or display as it only ships with a 1.3GHz MediaTek processor and a 5-inch qHD panel, it has possibly the biggest battery in any Android device today, sporting a 5300mAh battery.

Currently a China-only device, the W6618 promises a standby time of two months(!) or around 66 days, and a talktime of 33 hours! Of course, certain sacrifices had to be made, including increasing the overall thickness of the device to 11.6mm. The device has a street price of 1699 Yuan, or around Php 12132, which is kind of expensive, considering the specs. Then again, the massive battery is definitely the main selling point here, and apparently the device also has OTG capability that allows it to share the massive battery capacity with other devices as well.
