MediaTek’s new SoC is a true monster

We’ve seen what MediaTek’s upcoming MT6595 SoC is capable of in AnTuTu before, but it seems that the company’s latest octa-core, LTE capable SoC is capable of producing even higher benchmark scores. During the official launch of the MT6595 in Shenzen, China, MediaTek bosses showed off a screencap of the new SoC attaining 47,233 points in AnTuTu. The MT6595 is the first SoC of the Taiwanese company to use a big.LITTLE architecture, similar to the one used by Samsung on their Octa-core Exynos SoC offerings. The MT6595 is also the first chipset of MediaTek to have LTE built-in and not as a separate component. The chip is expected to run at around 2.2GHz.

Aside from the massive performance boost, the new chipset also promises support for cameras up to 20-megapixels (no more interpolation hooray!), as well as 2560 x 1600 resolution displays, as well as LTE and new camera features like slow motion and ultra HD video recording.

Now it’s just a waiting game to see which company makes the first smartphone equipped with the new SoC. Local brands, this is the time for you guys to show us what you got. Will we be seeing a MT6595 equipped uber-phone from MyPhone, Cherry Mobile and Starmobile soon? We hope so.
