Meet the MyPhone Uno

Google recently launched the Android One initiative here in the Philippines and one of their partners, MyPhone, unveiled their Android One offering, the MyPhone Uno. We were able to spend time with this device earlier this afternoon during Google’s launch event in White Space, Makati. While it’s too early to give you guys a solid verdict, we can already confidently say that this phone is a solid and reliable option mainly because of Google’s support and the product price point.

For you techies out there, here’s the spec sheet!

MyPhone Uno Specs

  • 4.5-inch FWVGA display
  • 1.3GHz Cortex A7 quad-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB storage
  • Expandable to 32GB
  • 5MP rear camera
  • 2MP front camera
  • Dual-SIM
  • 1700mAh battery
  • Android Lollipop 5.1
  • Price: Below Php5,000

As you can see the only glaring line there that’s a cause for concern is the 4GB internal storage. We’ll tackle that though once we do a full review. For now it’s important to point out that 4GB might not be enough. Ultimately it will depend to how you use your Android.

Build and Design: Curvy, Smooth, and Slender

Oooh. Curvy.
Oooh. Curvy.

Unlike the Cherry Mobile One which was rectangular and more blocky, the MyPhone Uno features a slightly curved build. This allows the phone to sit more comfortable in your hands. It’s also quite easy to handle since it’s just 4.5 inches (though we heard that there will be 5.0-inch Android One phones coming out soon).

The finish of the back plate feels like matte for the black. It comes in two back plate colors: white and black.

In terms of design, we’re loving how they made the primary camera at the back sit on top some sort of an silver aluminum circle. Gives it more class and style points! 🙂

Software: Android Lollipop Goodness!!!

Sarap. Lollipop.
Sarap. Lollipop.

Best thing about the MyPhone Uno? It comes with Android Lollipop 5.1 out of the box. That’s the latest and greatest Android update. As we said in our previous articles, the main benefit with Lollipop is that it greatly enhances the performance and reliability of the device. We felt this with the MyPhone Uno during our initial tests. Over-all experience was smooth, fluid, and seamless. It’s amazing how much better Android became since Lollipop came about!

Agree.
Agree.

Also, note that Google has already confirmed that Android One devices will be among the first wave of smartphones to get their latest update, Android M.

Initial Verdict: Pwedeng-pwede!

Very, very, very promising
Very, very, very promising

As far as initial impressions go, we’re very much impressed. We look forward to doing a full review of this so that we can report back to you guys if it’s really worth it. As it stands though the MyPhone Uno can be a fantastic low-cost but quality smartphone. Our only reservation right now really is the 4GB internal storage.

Congratulations Google Philippines and MyPhone!
