Red’s Hydrogen One Has A Holographic Display

Red Getting Into the Smartphone Business

If you’re into filmmaking, or just a bit of camera junkie, it’s more than likely that you know the brand — Red. They make some of the best cameras in the world that can shoot videos at up to 8K resolution. That’s right.. 8K! We’ve seen Marvel use them on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and it’s also the camera that MKBHD uses for his tech videos.

Recently, the company announced that it was getting into the smartphone biz and their first outing is a 5.7-inch smartphone that has a “holographic display” called the Hydrogen One. But, what is a holographic display exactly?

Their marketing material says:

Wearables not spoken here. It is no longer necesary to carry (or charge) another device to enjoy multi-dimensional content. Experience “look around depth” in the palm of your hand, no glasses or headset in sight.

The incredible retina-riveting display advancement features nanotechnology that seamlessly switches between traditional 2D content, holographic multi-view content, 3D content, and interactive games… both landscape and portrait modes supported.

Seriously, that’s a ton of jargon to sell us on the display, but many speculate it could be similar to or a major improvement from what we see on the Nintendo 3DS.

No word on its other internals though but, knowing Red, they’re probably going to pack some serious hardware into this smartphone that costs $1,195 (Php 60,443) for the aluminum variant and $1,595 (Php 80,675) for the titanium variant.

That’ a lot of dough to be dropping on a smartphone.
