Samsung, Apple Stay Still As Huawei, OPPO And Vivo Make Huge Bounds

It’s been a great year for the three Chinese brands

IDC’s results for Q1 of 2017 are in, and the results aren’t making folks in Seoul or California happy. While both Samsung and Apple retain their top spots in the worldwide leader board in the first three months of this year, both brands have stagnated, with Samsung and Apple recording virtually zero growth from the same period last year.

The picture couldn’t be more different for Chinese brands Huawei, OPPO and Vivo, who took the third, fourth and fifth spot, respectively. These three Chinese brands enjoyed double digit growth for Q1 of this year, with OPPO growing as much as 30%. Vivo grew 23.6%, while Huawei grew 21.7%.

The three brands shouldn’t get cocky though – Samsung’s new Galaxy S8 wasn’t yet available in the first quarter of 2017, and if anecdotal evidence is to be believed, the new flagship is shaping up to be quite a hot seller for the Korean company.
