Samsung Galaxy Y Netphone Unboxed!

We finally got in our hands a review unit of the Samsung Galaxy Y Netphone Edition! There are a lot of questions and comments about this particular phone because it just sells for an amazingly low price of Php5,990 (prepaid kit). For that price tag you’ll already get a phone that packs a 832MHz processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 2MP Camera, and of course SmartNet. Seriously not a bad deal if you ask me! Check below for our unboxing photos as well as our initial impressions. Don’t forget to read the captions of the photos!

Unboxing

The packaging is simple. You slide out the exterior carton which has the Smart branding to reveal the original Samsung Galaxy Y Phone Box.
When you open the box you'll immediately see the Samsung Galaxy Y Netphone wrapped in plastic. One thought that crossed my mind when I first saw this was "Cute phone!"
The display is 3 inches with 240x320 pixels (133 ppi density). Quality is not as good as the original Smart Netphone.
Here's what the back looks like. Btw, this phone is pretty light. It just weighs in at 97.5 grams.
Thickness reminds me of the iPhone 3GS. Still not bad if you ask me!

What else is in the box?

What's inside? Lots of stuff! You get earphones, charger, micro-USB cable, Media Card, manuals, etc.! Sorry for the messy pic, haha!

Initial Impressions

I took out my SMART Sim Card from the original Smart Netphone and popped it inside this unit. I’ve been using it for the last 6-7 hours already. As a communications device, including social media and light browsing, this unit delivers making it again a steal for just Php5,990. The phone is also surprisingly snappy. There were incidents of lag but it’s negligible.

My major complaint is the display. The low pixel density is something I’m not used to since my primary smartphone is the iPhone 4 which has Retina Display.

So far though I’m pretty impressed with the Samsung Galaxy Y Netphone Edition especially if you consider the price. Will try it out for a few more days and give you guys more details with the full review. 🙂
