Smart opens up LTE floodgates to everybody with Smart LTE prepaid!

Smart launched their prepaid LTE service earlier today at a media event with bloggers and press. The packages are pretty compelling at this point: 30 days unlimited for Php995, 7 days unlimited for Php299, and 1 day unlimited for Php50. To be able to connect to Smart’s LTE network you will need two things: a Smart LTE prepaid SIM (Php350) and a Smart LTE modem device. For the modems there are two available upon launch: the Smart LTE Plug-it which you can get for Php5,995 and the Smart LTE Pocket WiFi which you can get for Php6,995.

We took the liberty of compiling some questions we thought you guys might ask and put the answers below:

Is there a bandwidth cap?

For now, no. Smart prepaid LTE customers will enjoy unlimited downloads until June 30, 2013. Smart said they will review over-all bandwidth consumption then and decide on next steps.

I have a Smart Bro Prepaid Kit. Can I upgrade without going to the Smart store?

No. To avail of the Smart Bro LTE Prepaid service you need a Smart Bro LTE Prepaid SIM card and a Smart LTE device.

How about Smart Bro postpaid subscribers?

There were no announcements specifically for Smart Bro postpaid subscribers.

Will it work on the iPad? iPad Mini?

Make sure that the iPad or iPad Mini you’re getting is the international version. Ask if it supports the LTE 2200 band. If yes then it should work.

*We asked Smart if they have plans of offering a Smart iPad Mini with LTE bundle. Lloyd Manoloto, Head of Smart’s wireless broadband division, just gave us a coy smile. That’s probably a yes.

I subscribed to Smart LTE 3,500. Do I get freebies or something because it looks like it’s cheaper to go prepaid?

Unfortunately, no. Price of early adoption. Lol. Everything might start to make sense for you guys though once the unlimited forever is removed and Smart starts charging for bucket bandwidths. Until then you’re in the same boat with the guys who bought 1,200 postpaid or even just the 995 monthly for prepaid.
