There’s still hope for a ground-breaking flagship

Sony has officially made their Xperia Z3+ smartphone official. The Z3+ is, for all intents and purposes,is a Xperia Z4 for the rest of the world. The Xperia Z3+ is pretty much a slight upgrade from the Z3.

Sony Xperia Z3+ specs

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 5.2-inch full HD display, Shatter proof glass, Triluminos display, 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 32/64GB of storage, expandable via microSD
  • 20.7-megapixel rear camera
  • 5-megapixel front camera
  • 3G, LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • 2,930mAh battery

Of course Sony’s tweaked a few things inside the Z3+ coming from the Z3 – a slightly thinner body, a USB port that no longer needs a flap to protect it from the elements, and a faster, Snapdragon 810 processor. A 20-megapixel camera sits at the rear of the phone, and the overall size has been reduced to just 6.3mm from 7.3mm.

The announcement also gives us a glimmer of hope that the Z3+ is just an incremental device that’s meant as a stopgap until the real flagship comes. There’s been rumors that Sony will be releasing an even better flagship phone later this year, though that’s exactly what it is at this point – rumors. Still, it gives hope to many Sony faithful that the company is up to something big later this year.
