It looks like SM North Edsa Cyberzone Annex is well on its way to becoming the new gadget haven here in Metro Manila. When they first opened they had mostly a bunch of reseller shops selling several brands. Now though they’re getting more shops from actual stores, both local and international. The recent surge in popularity of local brands though is definitely showing. Local brands used to have kiosks but now they’re getting actual stores. In our last visit to SM North Edsa Cyberzone, we saw that local brands Starmobile and Torque were constructing their shops. They’re actually all lined up next to one another together with O+ and newcomer SKK Mobile.
One shop that caught me by surprise though was the one from Lifeproof. As most of you guys know Lifeproof is a brand of water, shock, dust, and dirt resistant cases for the iPhone. They were initially offered locally by Applewerkz and eventually by other Apple resellers like Beyond the Box. It looks like they sold really well to the point that they decided to put up their own shop.
Watch out Greenhills, hehe
SM North Edsa Cyberzone is definitely poised to take the gadget central crown (sans the shops buying and selling second hand goods) from Greenhills Vmall. With the rise of local brands offering very affordable devices the market for second hand international phones is definitely shrinking. Also these stores aren’t present in Greenhills, probably because all of the space in Vmall is already being rented out. The promos that the local brands are doing in their stores in SM will also shift the foot traffic there as well.
Definitely a good time for tech here in the Philippines!
