Tale Of Two Mi’s: Another Xiaomi Philippine Page Says Mi Home PH Not Official

Says that they’re the only legit and sole Philippine partner

Remember when we said that Xiaomi is officially back in the Philippines and tagged Mi Home Philippines as their new official home? Apparently that’s not true, according to yet another Xiaomi page named Mi Philippines. The page, which interestingly has the name @MiAuthorizedResellerPH in Facebook, is under the Grimalkin Corporation, which is in turn under the Star Paper Corporation.

From Mi Home PH’s Lazada page

Interestingly, Mi Home PH is currently classified as a support page, while Mi Philippines is an actual online shop that you can order from using a webform via the shop now button in their page. Now under normal circumstances we would assume that this is probably a case of miscommunication, where a multinational taps two companys for distribution and support with neither talking to the other, but Mi Home PH also posted a page in Lazada filled with all manner of Xiaomi goodies. Interestingly, some of the same items sold in the Lazada page of Mi Home Philippines that’s also present in the order form of Mi Philippines are more expensive, like the Xiaomi Ninebot Mini, which is priced at Php 23,248 in Mi Home Philippines’ page, but is only priced at Php 18,500 in Mi Philippines’ shopping form.

According to Mi Philippines, folks at the Xiaomi HQ has already confirmed to them that the other page is a fake page, and has reiterated that there are no other official Philippine distributor of Xiaomi products, just them. Now until Xiaomi officially makes an announcement through official channels, we only have their word. But we’re inclined to believe them – rumors about Star Paper’s involvement in Xiaomi’s return has been swirling in the tech scene for quite some time, though again, until we hear from Xiaomi themselves everything is conjecture at this point. We’ve contacted Mi Home PH for comment, but of press time they have not replied to our inquiry.

Hopefully the whole issue gets resolved, and Xiaomi makes an announcement to make everything nice and official. There’s many Mi fans in the Philippines that are itching to get their hands on new Xiaomi products, and having two competing Facebook pages vying for their attention for the same products aren’t helping the fans or the brand.
