We Want More Details on the ASUS ZenFone Zoom!

The variants of the ASUS ZenFone 2 are without a doubt the most anticipated and talked about smartphones in the local tech community right now. The highly competitive specifications, polished hardware designs, and the compelling price points make them very attractive buys. However, you shouldn’t just fork out all your cash and get the ASUS ZenFone 2 just yet, especially if you’re the type that loooooveeeesssss taking photos because there’s still the ASUS ZenFone Zoom.

When we were at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we were able to look, touch, and feel the Zenfone Zoom. Yes, we can’t categorically say that we played around with the unit because it was stuck on the tether (the wire holding it down on the table). While we weren’t able to properly test it, in theory and based on design, the Zenfone Zoom holds a lot of potential.

Specs-wise, it’s comparable to the Zenfone 2. It’s powered by the Intel Atom Z3580 2.3GHz Quad-core processor combined with 2/4GB of RAM. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and it has a 3,000mAh battery. On the hardware build front, we have a gorgeous 5.5-inch Full HD display (Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Glass Screen) and a sleek and easy-to-hold profile despite the big camera lens at the back.

Talking about the camera, the 13MP PixelMaster shooter of the Zenfone Zoom is the real reason why you’d want to get a unit. It’s actually a full blown “real camera”. It has 3x optical zoom and an impressive 10-element lens. It packs all the other important camera features as well like optical image stabilization and dual-LED (dual tone) flash.

They also tweaked the hardware so that you can make the most of the camera. We found a dedicated video recording button along the side of the device as well as a dedicated shutter button for taking photos.

Again, in theory, the ASUS ZenFone Zoom promises to be a winner. However we can’t really know unless we try it out for ourselves AND we find out how much ASUS will actually sell this for. It’s already confirmed that it will sell at a higher price point than the ASUS Zenfone 2 series but hopefully they won’t cross the Php22,000 mark. Otherwise there are a lot of other strong contenders already in that price range.

So what do you guys think? Pull the trigger already on the ASUS ZenFone 2 or wait for more details and reviews of the ZenFone Zoom before buying? Let us know in the comments section below.
