Packaging and contents

The THL T6S comes in a plain white box that most of THLs other products ship in, with a small difference. There’s a Hydroid sticker placed on the upper right of the box which tells buyers that this runs the Hydroid UI that Novo7 Tech made. The back of the box contains information about the device’s specs.

Once you open the T6S up, you’ll see the phone, quick start guide, USB cable, headphones and charger. The T6S has an included screen protector in the package as well.

Initial impressions: solid smartphone with good AnTuTu benchmark

The T6S bears more than a passing resemblance to Oppo’s Find 7 smartphone with its all white body and silver side trims. The volume rocker is located on the left while the power button is located on the right side of the device. They’re both a bit hard to spot considering they blend pretty well to the side of the phone’s body, but once you start using the phone you won’t have trouble finding them.

The back of the phone has gentle rounded edges and rounded corners, which makes it easy to hold in the hands. The camera module of the phone protrudes a few mm from the body, which may be a problem when you lay the T6S down on a rough surface. The 3.5mm jack and the USB port are both located on the top of the T6S.

The T6S uses a 5-inch capacitive IPS FWVGA display which is a bit lower compared to the qHD display on the Flare 3. The good news is that it seems to have good color reproduction and relatively okay-ish viewing angles, though we’d have to take it outside to see if it does well under direct sunlight.

Like most of Novo7 Tech’s other THL products, the T6S runs the pinoy-made Hydroid UI that’s exclusive to Novo7 Tech. The UI has changed quite a bit, and right now we simply need more time with the device to find all the changes. While some people don’t like Hydroid, its inclusion in the T6S means that the device is rooted out of the box – great news for people who like fiddling with their smartphone. You can check out our Hydroid article to see what makes the UI special.

We’ve encountered the 1.3GHz MTK6582m processor on the T6S on several smartphones before, so we had a good idea what the AnTuTu benchmark of the device would be. True to form, it scored around 19027 points. Like we always say, synthetic benchmarks aren’t always the sole indicator of performance, but it gives us a good idea what to expect from the device once we start using it.

That’s it for this unboxing. Watch out for our full review later on. We’re also uploading a video unboxing of the device later today, we’ll post it in here as soon as it’s done uploading.
