There’s a lot of buzz right now for devices that we’ve come to call “phablets”. These are phones that have massive screens that they dangerously hover over the line that separates a big phone from a small tablet. Usually devices with displays bigger than 5.0-inches qualify for this category. If you’re in the market for a Phablet we’d like to present to you our top 10 picks so far based on the models that are either in the market already or whose launch is just around the corner. Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD (Php13,490)

We kick off our list with the Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD. This is the best smartphone that Alcatel has ever shipped as it packs very competitive specifications (quad-core, HSPA+, 1GB RAM, Android Jelly Bean, etc) plus it comes with a free magnetic flip cover and a capacitive stylus. Starmobile Diamond V7 (Below Php13,000)

Next we have the yet-to-be-released Starmobile Diamond V7. This is Starmobile’s flagship phablet with killer specs, design, and just like the One Scribe HD, has a freebie flipcover with a capacitive stylus. The killer feature though (other than the 5.7-inch display) is the camera set-up. MyPhone Aqua Iceberg (Php12,000)

The MyPhone Iceberg is getting a lot of buzz online lately. Set to launch this weekend, this device features a 5.7-inch HD display, quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and an aluminum chassis. It also sports several software enhancements like Clever Motion which lets you control some functions of the phone using gestures. The device will have 16GB internal storage (non-expandable via microSD) but you do have the option of OTG USB so you can just plug-in a flash drive if you need access to more files and media. Samsung Galaxy Note II (Php20,800)

Of course you can’t have a list of top phablets and not include the line that started it all! The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 trumpets a lot of improvements compared to the first-generation Galaxy Note. Not only does it have monstrous internals but it also has a sleeker build and an even bigger display (5.5-inches vs 5.3-inches). Samsung also made a lot of progress with the chassis design by making the over-all width smaller making it easier to hold in one hand. Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 (Php9,499)

Cherry Mobile also has a very good phablet offering in the Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0. Packed with a 5.7-inch display, the device is perfect for watching videos and reading blogs. It’s also priced competitively at just Php9,499. Our only gripe about it really is that it still has a physical home button when the lower part of the display will already show three capacitive buttons thanks to Jelly Bean. SKK Mobile Silver (Php9,999)

SKK Mobile just entered the local scene a few months ago with a line-up of Jelly Bean powered devices. Their first flagship, the SKK Mobile Silver, sells for Php9,999 and it sports a 5.7-inch screen, a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage (expandable), and a 12MP shooter. Starmobile Diamond V3 (Php8,990)

The Starmobile Diamond V3 almost has the same size as the first generation Galaxy Note with 5.3-inches. At that size it’s actually one of the “smaller” phablets around which means it’s also one of the easiest to handle with one hand. In terms of specs, the Diamond V3 is equipped with competitive internals (quad-core, 1GB RAM, etc) and it even has a 8MP/5MP camera set-up. Click here for our review of the Starmobile Diamond V3.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (Php19,300)

Next we have the granddaddy of all phablets, the Galaxy Mega 6.3. This monstrous slab of technology has a 6.3-inch screen making it the biggest phablet in our list. This is probably the most polarizing device ever made since not everyone will really appreciate the sheer size of this thing. LG Optimus G Pro (Php30,000)

We first got out hands on the LG Optimus G Pro at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain last February. It’s arguably the most specced out device in our list (and most expensive too). Other than price though we have nothing bad to say about it. It sports best-in-class internals and features making it a superb flagship phablet for LG. Huawei Ascend Mate (Php16,990)

The Huawei Ascend Mate is also a device that we first met at the Mobile World Congress in Barcleona, Spain. It has the second biggest screen on our list, coming in 0.2 inches shy of the Galaxy Mega 6.3. It has a Huawei-made quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage (expandable via microSD), and HSPA+ connectivity. It’s a pretty solid offering from Huawei. We actually wanted to add a few more phablets in the list like the Samsung Galaxy Grand. However we only had a max of 10 for this list so maybe we can give that particular phone runner-up honors?
