Unboxing the Lenovo P700 Dual SIM Android ICS Smartphone

Meet the Lenovo P700!

Lenovo P700 Dual SIM Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Smartphone

There are only a few smartphones priced at Php10,999 that can get my attention. The Lenovo P700 is one of those devices because the specifications and features are perfect for Filipinos. First it runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Second it’s DUAL SIM. Lastly it has a massive 2,500mAh battery. With these features and the specs below you can probably say that this is indeed one of the best value-for-money mid-range smartphones in the market today.

Packaging

Not a bad looking box

You’d think that Lenovo would scrimp on the packaging since this is just a mid-range phone. However the P700 actually comes in a solid and eye-catching printed hard box. To open just remove the tape and flip it upwards. You’ll immediately be greeted by the P700 wrapped in some sort of plastic.

The P700 in the flesh!

Once you have the Lenovo P700 in your hands you’ll probably feel that it’s a bit thick. That’s because of the 2,500 mAh battery at the back. It’s a small price to pay though for the supposed battery life (we’ll verify and check in our review). It feels solid to hold and it’s made mostly from a mix of plastic and metal. The texture of the material used reminds me a lot of the Netphone 701 which isn’t really that bad at all.

The lock/unlock button is at the top while the volume rocker and dedicated camera button is on the right side. At the back you’ll find the camera and the removable back plate.

Inside the box you’ll find the wall charger, cable for data and charging, and earphones.

Initial Impressions

The 4.0-inch screen is definitely a looker. You’ll rarely find good screens like this on mid-range phones so this is a definite +1 for Lenovo.

I wasn’t really expecting to be too happy with the performance since it just runs a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM. However Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich actually runs okay with it. The navigation was snappy and smooth but it did lag when I started opening several applications as one or I was quickly fiddling through the settings.

Here’s a short video we shot while playing around with the P700. Watch it so you get a better idea of the user interface.
