Nokia Lumia 710 Unboxing!

Unboxing the Nokia Lumia 710

Smart recently announced that they’re going to offer the Nokia Lumia 710 exclusively here in the Philippines. We were able to do a hands-on post a few weeks ago when we bumped into a friend who had one. Sadly we only had a few minutes with it so we couldn’t write more than the initial impressions. The good news is that we have an actual review unit that we can use for a couple of weeks (Thank you Smart for the loaner unit)! For now we’ll share the unboxing as well as our initial impressions. Expect the full review after Holy Week.

Before anything else, check out this short video we made for the Lumia 710.

Packaging and Hardware

Just like it’s bigger brother, the Lumia 800, the Lumia 710 comes in a rectangular blue box. Unboxing is pretty easy. Just remove the tape and slide out the inner compartment. You’ll immediately be greeted by the Lumia 710.

As you can see from the photo above the Lumia 710 has three glass (or hard plastic) covered physical buttons below the 3.7-inch screen. The buttons are Back, Menu, and Search. On the side you’ll find the volume rocker. At the top you’ll find the headphone jack and the micro-USB charging port. The ports aren’t hidden anymore with a tray like the Lumia 800. As for the micro-SIM card it’s at the back (you can remove the back plate).

The phone feels solid to hold with the matte-like back finish. It’s not as thin as other higher-end smartphones but that’s okay considering this is a mid-range offering.

I am genuinely interested in seeing how Windows Phones will perform here in the Philippines. With the solid backing and marketing budgets of the telcos, this platform (as well as Nokia) will finally get a much-deserved push. Let’s see if the consumers will respond. 🙂

Pricing and Availability

We don’t have official word yet on the pricing or the postpaid plans for the Lumia 710 under Smart. As soon as we get more information we’ll update this entry.
