Packaging

Box of the Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.2

The Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 comes in your typical flip-type carton printed Samsung box. Opening it was easy since all we had to do was take out the tape at the bottom and open it from the bottom up. Once you flip it open you’ll immediately find the Galaxy S WiFi 4.2, covered in plastic, looking back at you.

Beneath the unit you’ll find all the other accessories and manuals. In our box we got a charger, USB to micro-USB cable, earphones, extra ear tips in different sizes, and the battery.

What else is in the box?

Hardware Initial Impressions

The Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 looks so much like the Samsung Galaxy S2. In fact you would actually think that this was an S2 if you saw it in public. Almost everything from the size to the curves are similar. The only thing that makes it look different is the speaker grille at the bottom.

Here are several photos of the unit from different angles. Don’t forget to read the captions!

Looks so much like the S2!
Camera at the top center of the back.
The back plate is removable. Slot for the battery and the SD card.
Unit is thin. Definitely not as bulky as the previous Samsung WiFi model.

Headphone jack and the micro-SD port are at the bottom. Volume rocker and Lock/Unlock/Power button at the right side.

Software

Touchwiz. Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Turning the Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 again feels like turning on a Galaxy S2! Once the phone loads you’ll be greeted by the familiar Android 2.3 Touchwiz home screen. It pretty much runs Android well. We’ll know more though when we run it through the paces in the next few days.

Angry Birds pre-installed.

The unit came pre-installed with the following apps: Angry Birds, FIFA 2012, and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 has an SRP of Php9,990 making it a strong contender if ever price is an important factor in your decision in buying a media player (the Apple iPod Touch is more expensive). If you want one the good news is that it’s now available in Samsung stores and gadget shops. 🙂
