Watch Out Intel: AMD Announces Ryzen Processor Line

After years of Intel dominating the desktop chip space, their old rival AMD has finally announced a product lineup to challenge their dominance in the market. Named Ryzen, the brand new chips are poised to give system builders and enthusiasts access to top-tier performance while being priced much, much lower than Intel’s offerings and is priced in some cases at half the price.

AMD’s new chip product line will consist of the Ryzen 7, 5 and 3, though right now they’ve only shown pricing and performance numbers for the top tier 7 lineup. The Ryzen 7 chip family consists of 3 SKUs for now, and includes the Ryzen 7 1800X, Ryzen 7 1700X and the Ryzen 7 1700.

According to early benchmarks, AMD’s Ryzen 7 1800X has performance that’s slightly above Intel’s top-tier Core i7-6900K processor. While that’s not as impressive on its own, what is astounding is that AMD’s offering is that it’s priced at half of what Intel’s asking for it’s top-tier model. You heard that correctly – the Ryzen 7 1800X is priced at $500 which is half of what Intel is asking for their chips.

The other members of the Ryzen 7 family isn’t too shabby either – the Ryzen 7 1700X is priced at $399 and the Ryzen 7 1700 is around $329. PH pricing is a little higher, with the Ryzen 7 1800X coming at Php 27,000, while the 1700X is priced at Php 21,000 while the 1700 is at Php 17,500.
