Will We Ever See the BlackBerry Z3 in the PH?

After its successful launch in Indonesia, BlackBerry’s Z3 goes on sale in India, South Africa and Nigeria

BlackBerry is trying to claw its way back up to the top with its recently announced Z3 smartphone that was built in cooperation with Chinese manufacturer Foxconn. The Z3 is actually selling well in Indonesia, which has prompted the company to start selling it in several other countries like India, South Africa and according to Phone Arena, Nigeria. Weirdly enough, the company has opted to skip the Philippines when it comes to the sale of the Z3. BlackBerry has enjoyed a strong following from pinoy consumers in the past, which makes the omission of the PH as one of its primary launch countries for an affordable model that much more telling. It’s also important to note that the countries that the company has launched the Z3 are also developing countries, or third-world countries (though some may argue that South Africa isn’t a third-world country) with a demographic that’s very similar to ours.

BlackBerry Z3 specs

  • 1.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
  • Adreno 305 GPU
  • 1.5GB of RAM
  • 5-inch capacitive touchscreen, 504 x 960 resolution
  • 8GB of storage, expandable via microSD
  • 5-megapixel rear camera
  • 1.1-megapixel front camera
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, APGS
  • 3G, HSPA
  • BlackBerry 10.2.1 OS

Has the BlackBerry completely abandoned the Philippine market? We’re not entirely sure. The brand may have had difficulty selling its Z10 smartphone in our country thanks to stiff competition from local and international brands selling low-cost Android devices, and may have opted to skip the PH in favor of other countries where they know they can sell a lot of the Z3 to. The company has officially pulled out of our market last year and maintains a single employee to liaise with the HQ, though there are rumors that our country will see the Z3 before long. If the company does sell the Z3 in the Philippines, does it even have a chance considering there’s stiff competition in the price range (likely around 10K) that the Z3 will launch at? Will you buy a BlackBerry Z3 provided it’s priced at a competitive price? Let us know in the comments.
