A smaller, cheaper smart TV from Xiaomi
By now everybody knows that Xiaomi makes a 49-inch, 4K TV dubbed the Mi TV 2 that sells for very little money. Well Xiaomi has unveiled another variant of that TV that drops the 4K capability and reduces the display to 40-inches but retails for far lower at just RMB 1999, or just a hair under 14.5K.
The display of the new TV variant is made by Sharp and boasts a contrast ratio of 5,000:1, has a H.265 10-bit hardware video decoding plus Dolby virtual surround sound. It’s powered by a 1.4GHZ quad-core Cortex A9 processor with 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and is a mere 14.5mm thin.
For all intents and puproses the smaller 40-inch model works similarly to the company’s larger 49-inch model which you can see demoed on our video above when we visited Xiaomi’s office in Singapore last year. Sadly, this model, like the bigger 49-inch one, may not see the light of day in the Philippines. One can only dream.
