Xiaomi’s Mi Max 2 is Now Official

After weeks of leaks and benchmark sightings, the Mi Max 2 is finally here.

Xiaomi has just officially unveiled the successor to last year’s widely popular Mi Max phablet, the new 6.44-inch Mi Max 2. While the Mi Max 2 still sports the same 6.44-inch footprint like its predecessor, the handset boasts plenty of improvements, except (maybe) for its SoC. Still, the Snapdragon 625 (compared to the first Mi Max’s SD 650) is no slouch by any means. Both SoCs have specific strengths and weaknesses. It would’ve been great if Xiaomi packed the new Snapdragon 660 chipset inside, but that would most likely balloon the Mi Max 2’s price higher than its targeted market segment.

Technical ramblings aside, this new Mi Max 2 is a more complete, ergonomic and battery-efficient package than its first incarnation. Let’s check out its specs.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor
  • Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 6.44-inch Full HD display, 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 64GB/128GB expandable storage, via microSD
  • 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 rear camera, Large Pixel, with PDAF
  • 5-megapixel front camera, with wide-angle lens
  • Dual SIM (Hybrid, Nano), 4G LTE, LTE-A
  • Fingerprint sensor, IR blaster, stereo speakers
  • 5300mAh battery, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0
  • Android 7.0 Nougat (MIUI 8)

China will be getting the Mi Max 2 on June 1, starting at $247 (~Php 12.4K) for the 64GB storage edition. The 128GB variant will be priced at $291 (~Php 14.4K). Here’s hoping this handset lands in Philippine shelves soon.
