6GB is the new normal

Further proof that 6GB will soon be the norm for flagship phones, ZTE has officially announced their newest flagship, the Axon 7 with 6GB of RAM. Designworks, a company that’s worked with BMW, Mini and Rolls Royce in the past, has had a hand in the overall design of the new flagship, trying to give users both beauty and brawn in one package.

The AXON 7 has all of the trappings of a flagship made for 2016: a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, premium all metal body, Qualcomm’s newest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 820, and a choice of either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Users can also choose between 64GB or 128GB of storage, and the phone comes packing a USB Type C connector for fast charging. There’s a fingerprint scaner on the back as well for extra security. The AXON 7 is also one of the first phones that’s compliant with Google’s specifications for Daydream, their premium VR engine.

As for the snaps, the AXON 7 comes with a 20-megapixel rear camera with a Samsung ISOCELL sensor paired with all the goodies you’d expect – OIS+, EIS+ as well as phase detection AF, f/1.8 aperture lens and a dual LED flash. An 8-megapixel front camera completes the camera package. The phone has a 3140mAh battery, and sports a dedicated 24-bit/96KHz DAC for HiFi audio.

No pricing has been set by ZTE as of yet for the AXON 7, but the phone is destined for other markets aside from the company’s home country of China. ZTE’s mulling a sub $500 price for the AXON (Php 23.3K) which should make it an attractive choice for people who want a hard-hitting flagship at bargain prices.
