300 Rise of the Empire: Too Many “Last Speeches”

Artemesia!

300 Part 2! 600!

Were you guys able to watch 300: Rise of the Empire? We were finally able to find time to watch the much-awaited sequel to 300 courtesy of our BDO Rewards Card. As expected the movie had all the gore, action, and super slow motion fight scenes that made the first 300 a massive hit worldwide. However one thing lacking was a strong central hero.

300: Rise of the Empire basically happens side-by-side the original movie and then shows what happens after Leonidas died. The main hero is the Themistocles, an Athenean commander. Unfortunately he was everything that Leonidas wasn’t. Themistocles was a bit too boring and didn’t have the same amount of passion and character that Leonidas had. He also gave too many “before-the-big-fight-last-speeches”. I think he gave around 4-6 of them. All of which paled in comparison to Leonidas’ famous “This is where they die” speech at the Hot Gates.

The main character, in our mind, was actually the villain — Artemisia, a Persian commander who was an abused and orphaned greek. Eva Green played this character wonderfully and despite her being super weird (like making out with a severed-head weird), we ended up cheering for her and even wanting her to win against Themistocles, hehe.

Everything considered the movie was fun to watch especially in the second half. Lots of gore, action, and uh… more gore and action! Hehe. The ending was also awesome and from the looks of it we will be seeing 300 part 3 soon.
