“Does it come in black?”
This massive take on the Batmobile debuted on the big screen during Batman Begins. Lucius Fox recommended it to Bruce Wayne when he started sniffing around for technology he could use for his crime fighting. Ever since the first movie we’ve seen the vehicle come to life again in the second and third outings of Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. This made it quite iconic and has defined what the standard of what the Batmobile should look like for the generation that didn’t get to see the first designs and styles in the earlier movies and TV series.
Hot Toys, the maker of the 1/6th scale figures that we’ve been collecting in the last few months, came out with the Batmobile Tumbler a few years ago. We finally managed to bring one back to the Unbox HQ though it kinda left a burning hole in our wallet (thing cost over Php25,000). This is a massive piece spanning 18.5″ wide, 29″ long, and 11″ tall. It also weighs a whopping 13.15 kilograms (29 lbs). So you guys get a better idea of the size, here’s a photo of the Tumbler beside the Batpod and the 1/6th scale Batman figure.
Photos actually don’t do justice to this. It’s really, really, really big! The only piece bigger than this is the 1989 Batmobile (which we’ll feature in a separate entry).
The design and style is exactly the same as the vehicle used in the movie. We get the sliding panels for the hood, the super large rubber tires at the front and the quad-tire set-up at the back. The smaller details like the fenders, rods, and boosters are also all in it.
The Batmobile Tumbler also has battery powered LED headlights and fog lights. Just slap 3A batteries in the side panel and you just easily flip the switch to turn the lights on and off. Pretty nice touch.
Here are a few more photos of this beast in different POV and angles for your appreciation:
Without a doubt this is one of the best creations of Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles. For die-hard Batman fans and collectors, it’s a must-have. However please do note the price as this one doesn’t fall under the “practical” and “affordable” categories. If you’re lucky you can find Tumblers being sold for Php25,000. However most of them are selling for over Php30,000 these days.
Watch out for our feature as well on the Batmobile 1989 in the coming weeks! 🙂
