Netflix Introduces Offline Playback

Streaming service Netflix has officially added offline playback feature to their Android and iOS app. After tweeting “your favorite stories are now available for download any time,” the company came out with a short video showing off several original shows that can be downloaded to your device for later viewing.

This means that you’ll now be able to watch shows available on the streaming service wherever you are, whenever you choose, by simply pressing the small download button on the page.

Not all titles will be available for offline viewing, but it seems like many of Netflix’s own shows will be eligible for the new feature. That means you can now download Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown in a place where there’s plentiful (and fast) internet and view them later without worrying about data caps or internet speeds. Interestingly enough, the new feature is a great way to capture more marketshare in countries that have crappy mobile internet (like the Philippines, for example), something that YouTube implemented two years earlier for the very same reason.
