PBA Shares the Stage with the NBA at the Mobile World Congress 2016

Former Gilas Coach and now media executive Coach Chot Reyes brought back “PUSO” to Spain as he gave a riveting talk at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. Reyes was among the two sports media executives who were invited to share learnings about in and off stadium digital-mobile marketing. The other speaker was Christine Pantoya, Senior Vice-President for Mobile Strategy of the NBA.

In his address, Reyes shared how Sports 5, the sports arm of TV5, uses digital and mobile tools to increase fan engagement during live games and even outside the court. One of the efforts he talked about was Moneyball, their interactive game show mobile app which viewers can use during half-time shows to be able to win points which they can later exchange for prizes.

A Mobile App for Every PBA Team

Reyes also took the opportunity to announce a major project that’s set to launch in the coming weeks. Together with mobile app development company Hopscotch, Sports 5 and the PBA will be creating a mobile app for every team in the league. Each app will feature exclusive digital content (videos, statistics, articles, etc) for each respective team. This will allow fans of the teams to be closer than ever before to their favorite players and coaches.

After the talks of Pantoya and Reyes, a panel composed of top-level telecommunications executives from all over the world, including Telstra Chief Operating Officer Kate McKenzie, ESPN Digital Director Sergio Verdu, and Orange Paris Executive Vice-President Pierre-Louis de Guillebon, discussed how sports, both in-stadium and live broadcast, were critical in driving their businesses forward.

It’s awesome when you see Filipinos standing side-by-side representatives from global iconic companies such as the NBA in a stage like the Mobile World Congress. Congratulations to Chot, the PBA, and the entire Sports 5 team! 🙂
