This Filipino Kid Made A Life-size BB-8 With Just Basic Tools

Holy DIY batman!

If you’re a fan of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and want something more substantial than the dinky Sphero BB-8 toy you’re out of luck – unless you build one yourself. That’s exactly what this die-hard pinoy kid did. Angelo Casimiro, a student at the De La Salle University wanted his very own life size BB-8, and since no one makes one, he decided to build one himself. Now building a full-sized replica of the headline droid in a multi-million Hollywood movie is already a big challenge even if you have fancy, sophisticated tools like 3D printers and CNC machines, but that feat’s almost impossible if you don’t have access to those things.

That didn’t stop Angelo though, and he trudged on by using household items and tools for his build. Items like Christmas balls, antennas from routers and more importantly, an Arduino brain that allows him to control the droid via his phone.

If you’ve always wanted your own BB-8, you can replicate Angelo’s design easily as he’s posted the instructions to making your own BB-8 via Instructibles here.
