Hooq is looking to give Netflix some serious competition

Hooq, that video streaming service that key Globe executive Peter Bithos left for, has officially launched yesterday. Hooq is a video streaming service that’s akin to Netflix, and was put up by Warner Bros., Sony Pictures Television and Singtel.

The company is promising to deliver Hollywood films and TV series, as well as local content to multiple platforms without an existing cable connection. Hooq’s promising around 10,000 movies and TV shows at launch, with more coming in the pipeline. The company has also partnered with local content providers like ABS-CBN, GMA to deliver local content as well.

Since the company is joint venture with Singtel, it launches in the Philippines first with Globe (since Globe is partly owned by Singtel). The service is slated to hit other countries soon, but for now, the PH is its first destination. As far as subscription cost is concerned, Hooq is priced at just Php 199 a month, though right now you can’t get it on your mobile device as of yet. There’s also no details yet if non-Globe subscribers can partake in the streaming action.
