We review the Cogito Classic Smartwatch!

Whenever people talk about smartwatches, usually people think about a watch that’s Dick Tracey-esque – a display that allows you to read SMS, make calls and even take photos. Connectedevice, the people behind the Cogito Classic took a slightly different approach, opting to make the watch into an extension of the smartphone instead of replacing it on your wrist.

The Cogito Classic looks like any regular watch at first glance. Several buttons are located on the sides of the watch, with the crown in the usual place. The band a soft, rubbery material which feels really comfy even after wearing the watch for extended periods. Once you turn it on however, you’ll see that the Classic isn’t exactly your run of the mill watch. Several icons are embedded on the digital display around the analog facade of the Cogito Classic that only light up when you receive a notification. You can set up the Cogito Classic to send you notifications when someone messages you, either through SMS, Facebook and email, as well as remind you of important events and when your phone’s battery is running down. The Cogito Classic will also tell you when someone is calling, and will display their name near the top of the display.

Setting up the Cogito Classic is easy enough, you just need to pair the watch to your phone, download the accompanying app and specify which alerts you want sent to your watch. The Cogito Classic connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0, and uses a single CR2032 battery to power it, which is enough to last around a year before it needs replacing, a big advantage compared to other smartwatches that need to be charged every few days. It’s also rated up to 10 ATM, so you can take it swimming, showering and bathing with you without worrying about it dying, though it’s not rated for use as a diving watch.

Because the Cogito Classic takes a minimalist approach to the smartwatch, it lacks a lot of other functionality that other smartwatches can give you, most notably the lack of fitness tracking support. The Cogito Classic also supports only a select number of Android phones (mostly flagships from Samsung, HTC and certain Nexus devices. It can connect to a majority of Apple devices (starting from the iPhone 4S up) including 4th and 3rd gen. iPads and the 5th gen iPod Touch.

We liked the Cogito Classic because it’s a stylish timepiece that has an elegant design and simple notification system that won’t confuse anyone. While it’s not as feature packed as some smartwatches in the market, but there are some people who don’t want complicated and flashy smartwatches like the Pebble, for instance.

The Cogito Classic retails for Php 9,000.
