Xiaomi just introduced an enhanced version of the Mi Box at Google I/O and it certainly sounds promising,  but does it present a threat to Apple TV and other set-top boxes? On paper,  it sure sounds like it does. Here are its specs:

Xiamoi Mi Box Specs

  • Quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 Processor
  • Mali 450 Graphics Chip
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 8GB Internal Storage
  • Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x USB 2.0
  • Android TV 6.0

The Mi Box supports 4K Playback with HDR,  made available via an Android N update,  to give picture quality a boost with increased contrast,  higher brightness,  and more colors. It will have access to Google Play and the usual streaming services,  such as: YouTube and Netflix.

The Mi Box will be initially launched in the US and then released to other regions after. It will ship with a remote control and other accessories, like a Bluetooth game pad, sold separately. Pricing for the Mi Box has yet to be announced and we’re really hoping Xiaomi bolsters their presence in the country to bring this and the rest of the devices they recently announced.
